It Is Time to Seek the Lord

  • Are you tired of trying to be a good Christian?
  • Are you overloaded and worn out from church activity?
  • Do you ever feel like you are going through the motions?
  • Do you find yourself running on empty spiritually?
  • Do you experience heaviness and shame more than joy and freedom?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions you are a prime candidate for spiritual revival.

Wash Your Hands

Do you remember the one thing that your mom would ask you to do before you sat down at the dinner table to eat a meal? Wash your hands! Not only do moms ask the question they seem to have a sixth sense and know when we haven’t washed. They seem to know this without even inspecting at our hands.

The Bible also points out that having clean hands and a prepared heart is important for the follower of Christ. I have been talking about worship for the last month. As I think about times of personal or corporate worship I’m reminded how important it is to properly prepare before I “sit at the table.”

What is Missing Today?

All is not well in our world today. We hear the complaints about the lack of respect for the elderly, lack of respect for the young, lack of respect for those in authority. Ask a police officer, teacher or principal how they are treated today. High Schools across the country are having a hard time finding people willing to sign up to officiate sports. Why?Lack of respect. We find a lack of reverence and respect everywhere we look. If this is a problem in our day to day living I have to ask myself if this is a problem in our spiritual lives and in the church? My fear is that it is more common than we would like to admit.

While I can’t answer the question for you, I do know that respect and reverence are essential in our walk with God. If we don’t have a respect and reverence for God how can we worship Him? Why would we worship Him? The definition of reverence: 1: honor or respect felt or shown: deference;  especially: profound adoring awed respect  2: a gesture of respect (such as a bow).

I am concerned that there is a lack of reverence for God today period.

We say we love Him but we don’t fear Him. We are entertained but we don’t stand in awe of God. We call God our friend but we all too quickly forget that He is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28 puts it this way:

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,  for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28-29

Do you have a reverence and awe for our God? He is Holy! He is worthy! He deserves our respect!
What is missing? A healthy fear of God. Proverbs puts it this way:

Where Does Worship Begin?

Sunday I dealt very openly and honestly with the topic of worship and how it is related to idolatry. It was a powerful morning.  It was a humbling experience for me to identify and confess my idol.  I have to say that it was a very freeing experience to release that idol at the close of the service.  If you missed it you can listen to or watch last weeks sermon here.

When we take steps like this the enemy is not pleased. As we go into the week  remember these definitions we talked about on Sunday.

Idolatry

Anything that competes with God for your heart’s affection.

Worship

A lifestyle of prayer, song, service, giving and living that flows from a heart that is aligned with God.

Luke 9:23 reminds us:  And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
