Wash Your Hands

Do you remember the one thing that your mom would ask you to do before you sat down at the dinner table to eat a meal? Wash your hands! Not only do moms ask the question they seem to have a sixth sense and know when we haven’t washed. They seem to know this without even inspecting at our hands.

The Bible also points out that having clean hands and a prepared heart is important for the follower of Christ. I have been talking about worship for the last month. As I think about times of personal or corporate worship I’m reminded how important it is to properly prepare before I “sit at the table.”

We live in a world that is polluted with sin and the truth of the matter is that our hands and hearts can get dirty very easily. Psalm 24 asks two important questions: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? Do you know what the answer is? Psalm 24:4 says: He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.

If you live in the world you will get dirty hands. As a follower of Christ I have to admit that my heart doesn’t always have the right attitude. So I need to be honest with myself and with God. The Bible tells us that when we confess our sin God does forgive us and cleanse our heart and hands. 1 John 1:9.

If I want to remove barriers that keep me from being a worshipper of the King, I need to wash my hands.
My encouragement to you is to make sure you wash your hands and prepare your heart at the start of every day. I also want to encourage you do to the same thing as you prepare for worship each Sunday. Make sure to wash your hands and prepare your heart to gather with other believers to lift up the name of Jesus. It is powerful! It is essential! Most of all it is honoring to the King that we worship and serve.
